The Challenge

With a broad and respected pool of scholars and academics working at a high ranking College in the Northeast, the school’s media relations team sought tailored training to prepare its staff for media opportunities. The College needed executive communications and leadership development to help faculty share their expertise with general audiences through the media and bolster the College’s profile as an academic leader.

The Solution

They approached Half Street Group to tailor its small group media and message training for a cohort of academic faculty. Half Street created a series of training sessions for division directors, academic groups, and scholars to develop faculty’s media fluency and highlight media opportunities and audiences. The training helped faculty identify on-ramps for thought leadership and coached them to boil down complex ideas for lay audiences. Additionally, Half Street developed one-on-one coaching sessions to bolster the leadership brand for individual staff members.

The Impact

Since Half Street’s specialized work with the College, over a dozen faculty members have partnered with the College’s media relations team to actively seek media and speaking opportunities as topic experts in print media and online publications, and on podcasts. Increased media appearances by faculty members raise the College’s profile and academic reputation among potential faculty, alumni, students, donors, and more.
